Deal with anxiety through blogging
2020, what a year. Everyone as a collective can agree that 2020 has been the worst year ever. And if you are one of those few people who have not been affected as others have been during the pandemic, consider yourself lucky.
Unfortunately, that has not been the case for the majority of people. Personally, for me, 2020 is the year I graduated from college, and let me tell you that made me super anxious.
I graduated at the height of the pandemic. For most people, graduation is the end to a beginning. You may be new to the job market, or you might be experienced in a certain field.
Let me just say the job market was already tough enough before the pandemic, but damn during a global pandemic? Close to impossible. Especially in the field, I had studied in.

Feeling Anxious about Post Grad Life
I always knew I wanted to be self-employed. But that was a dream I had for later on in my life, not so soon in my early adult life. So as any new grad would do, I applied to every job out there. As someone with an autoimmune disease also, I avoided jobs that would put me in direct contact with the public (which just narrowed the job search even more).
Anyone, in this case, would have their anxiety levels up. The whole time I was thinking, is it really worth it? Is it worth working for someone else and be barely making a living wage, or the lack of job security? That is when I decided, no, it was not worth it. I decided I was going to start my own business doing something I enjoy, and that would make me more than the bare minimum.
But before I could even do that, I had to address my anxiety….
How I Dealt with my Anxiety
Anxiety is something A LOT of people deal with. Some people have it harder than others. I have dealt with my anxiety since the pandemic hit. However, I have done things to help ease it a bit.
Blogging
Personally, for me, blogging is the thing I do to take my mind off of things. I enjoy writing and expressing myself through writing. It is so important that everyone (whether you suffer from mental health issues or not) have that thing they do that they enjoy.
We live in a world where everything is so fast-paced and work-driven, oftentimes we forget to just relax and do the things that we love.
I started blogging in January of 2021. And let me tell you, the process of starting it was a bit confusing. Setting up a blog can be confusing at times, but thankfully there is plenty of information out there to help a person out, and I have not regretted starting it since.
My blog is mostly based on natural skincare and DIY projects. I enjoy making them and it has helped with the whole self-care journey I was (and still am) going through.
I think self-care is extremely important, and at least for me, it has helped with easing my anxiety quite a bit. And for me, blogging is a way of self-care.
Blogging has helped me find my voice and confidence. I enjoy writing and it has helped me express myself, and it can help you too.
Benefits of Blogging for Anxiety
There are many benefits to blogging for easing anxiety, such as:
1. Helps a person find their voice and confidence.
After a month of my blogging, I found my voice and writing style. With this newfound voice, it gave me a total confidence boost and therefore helped a bit with the self-doubt I had during the beginning of the pandemic.
2. It helps a person find a sense of purpose.
People are in need of information and providing valuable information to them can help you as well with finding your sense of purpose.
3. It is a healthy and creative outlet.
Blogging is a creative outlet where a person can express themselves through writing, photography, or even marketing. When I started blogging, expressing my creative side really helped with focusing my energy on writing rather than the self-doubt and anxiety I was facing.
4. Connecting with a great and welcoming community.
One of the great things about blogging is that there is a whole community out there that is so welcoming and helpful.
Obviously, blogging can be a scary thought, starting something new is always scary. However, finding a group of like-minded individuals can be one of the best things ever.
In my second month of blogging, I joined a few Facebook groups for bloggers, and let me tell you that is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
There are so many amazing and helpful individuals in those groups that helped me whenever I started self-doubting myself. They would encourage me to keep going and not to give up.
Tips on Dealing with Anxiety through Blogging
Writing can really help a person deal with anxiety, and blogging can help you with that. If you suffer from anxiety, you can use blogging as an escape. An escape where you can express how you feel, or dive into and learn and write about a new topic.
- Pick a topic you would like to write about. It can be about a topic you are passionate and knowledgeable about, or even a new topic you would love to learn more about.
- Express yourself through your writing. It helps ease your anxiety when you convert all that energy into your writing.
- The blogging community is very friendly so do not be shy! Do not hold yourself back due to the fear of being judged. Join Facebook groups and ask questions whenever you have doubts about something. They are there to help.

My name is Binet and I am a beauty and skincare blogger. I am a recent college grad and let me tell you, it was hard taking care of myself while also going to school full time. Working out and eating healthy was non-existent. I decided to take control of my life and I document that on my blog. I write about DIY skincare products like DIY face masks, lip scrubs, and body scrubs. I also review many popular skincare products and I post 1-2 times a week.
