Breaking Through To Become A Writer
I started writing when I was in high school, the year 2014. It was not at all something I had planned. It just happened. Till the time I completed high school no one knew that I used to write. So one day, I just shared one of my write-ups with a friend, and she appreciated me a lot. From there, my journey of writing started. After that, I started posting my poems and quotes online.
The First FAILURE Of Life!
I had always wanted to do Mass Communication and become a journalist. But I hail from a small town in India, where the field I wanted to opt for was not available.
Belonging to a middle-class family, my parents couldn’t afford to send me out. This incident broke me badly. Adding to that belonging to a family where all my cousins are CA, Doctors, Lawyers; being a journalist was a very small thing in comparison to that, so I had to opt for a CS degree forcefully.
The Feeling Of Being Trapped In A Place Where You Don’t Belong!
The pressure of doing something that you don’t want to do, made me feel trapped. I went into the spiral of depression and had my first failure when I was not able to clear my CS exams.
When the first failure hits you, you realize how hard life is! That failure made me hate myself. I started having doubts about myself. I started questioning my life.
I felt worthless and useless. I was alive for the outer world, yet I was dying from inside. But then giving up was never an option for me because I had dreams alive in me. I wanted to do so many things,
so how could I have ended so soon!
Breaking Through
That failure though was devastating that time, but it somewhere gave me the guts to drop out of CS. I went against my whole family by dropping CS, and after a few weeks got a job as a Content Writer in an advertising company. Slowly and surely, my family began to understand my talent and accepted it.
With my first job, I didn’t just learn about writing in-depth, but I also explored the world of marketing.
From Being Nothing To Becoming Something
Today, I’m doing freelancing as a content writer and social media manager. I started from zero and today, I’m handling my own clients.
Not only that but today I’m helping people and guiding them through my blog which focuses on healthy living and mental freedom. I learned Numerology and now I do consult people to look at a broader perspective of life.
Takeaway From My Experience
We all think that we are stuck in life, but until and unless you won’t open the lid of the box you will always feel stuck.
We all continuously pay attention to problems, rather than focusing on the solution. I have made my principle of life that whenever something goes wrong, rather than focusing on what has happened, I pay attention to what I have to do now!
The Present Obstacle
Well, I’m still struggling a little because writing in India doesn’t pay you well until you are a renowned writer. But I’m happy because at least my parents do support me now.
Opening My Wings and Publishing My First Book
In 2021, I published my first fictional book – Chimes Of Brewing Life, and released it worldwide. The book dwells around; the issue of colourism in Indian society, ideas of feminism, sexuality and gender preferences, sexual harassment and bully, mental health, friendship to a greater extent, and those teenage butterflies.
Though I have received amazing reviews, it hasn’t yet reached a large section of the audience. I had no one to help me with my book as I have no friends who are in this field. But still, I was determined to publish.
I spent 3 continuous days searching for a publisher as I didn’t have much money to invest much. I got so frustrated that I felt like giving up. But then when dreams knock on your door, they don’t leave so easily. The only problem that I’m currently facing is that my book hasn’t reached a mass set of an audience yet. Fingers crossed, hope so it reaches people and inspires them!
Advice To All The Young Writers Around The World
1) Consistency
Write. Every. Single. Day. Try not to skip a day without writing. Even if you feel the thought is useless, or the topic you are thinking is useless, still, write it down in your journal. If you don’t have your journal with
you, then write it down on your mobile phone.
You have the power to write, so don’t let that power diminish. Hold your pen like a sword and keep on writing every single day.
2) Patience
It’s been almost 3 months that my book is alive, yet around 30-40 copies have been sold. Somedays, it does make me feel sad but then again I realize, it is not magic. Things will happen, but it will take time. If I’m given my 100% efforts then results will come. So, give your 100% efforts, but be patient when it comes to results. The seeds you have sown will definitely bear fruits, but you will have to be consistent with your efforts and be patient.
Lastly, believe me, the struggle you are going through right now is definitely worthwhile. It might be too hard right now, but it is going to pay you a lot after some time. Whenever things don’t work in your favour, the universe is planning something big to surprise you with.
