Hello fellow writers, here is where I will dump but not forget my aspirations in making a book. Something to look back on as a newbie blogger and keep me in check. Your comments and willingness to read these posts will aid both of us to do so (fingers crossed).
Let’s get out of the way my outlandish first goal.
- Write 40,000 words in 6 months.
Broken down into 333.34 words a day for 5 days a week. Will I achieve it? Hope so, but it’s not soul-crushing if not. I would have created a story that I never thought I could, with many, many words I do not know if I could do. That feels like an epic outcome. I am already proud of my writing accomplishments and am determined to keep pressing on. Pressing many, many keys.
2. Keep consistent.
Predictable, I know. yet it is a hard skill to maintain and I want to make the most of my time.
3. Find motivations to write
Already experiencing a writers’ block has made me want to be prepared for all perceived threats to writing. To build up tolerance and tools to arm me against the inevitable.
4. Have a shocking and well thought out plot twist.. or two
Now, I have ideas about how to achieve this. However, they’re only ideas, it is the execution that matters.
5. Don’t stop learning how to improve my writing
Training my skills through what those before us have made successful carers out of. Will I become like them. No, course not were all very different people. Could I learn from their successes? Undoubtedly. It is more of a question of how and what I will apply to my work. A plan of action to accomplish these additions.
6. Use feedback
We know and this step is vital as it is important to keep the readers engaged, enough they want to read through fillers scenes to get to juicy parts.
7. Be organised and track progress
To achieve any goal there needs to be motivation. I find that tracking what I have achieved helps me continue on the journey. Like a badge of honour you wear to show off your abilities. I will reinforce to myself that I can do it because I have done it. Now I just need to keep going.
8. Find my style
Daunting. It is a daunting task. Not only to extract a new world from my mind to be put on a screen, on paper but, to experiment outside my comfort zone. It’s for the best. Yet it will bother me like growing pains and be an awkward and anxious filled voyage to get through.
9. Join others on the journey
To find others in a similar experience, make a community and support one another. There is always a moment when we will struggle and need help from someone that understands.
What do you expect and want from yourself? Let me know down in the comments below. Oh, do tell what you’d like to see in this blog too.
Until then, see you next week.
